Maryland picks up 10th commitment for class of 2022 with LB out of Virginia

Paul Harvey | 21 days ago

Maryland has added another prospect to the 2022 recruiting class, picking up a commitment on Thursday.

This time, the commitment came from Caleb Wheatland, a linebacker out of Virginia. He also held offers from Utah State, Ball State, Kent State, and others.

“First I would like to thank God for putting me in this position to where I can play at the next level,” Wheatland wrote on Twitter. “I would like to thank my family, coaches, and friends for staying by my side throughout this process.”

The addition of Wheatland brings Maryland’s total tally of commitments for 2022 up to 10 players. That class is currently ranked 24th nationally for the cycle and is headlined by three-star athlete Preston Howard.
Wheatland is rated as a three-star prospect by 247 Sports. He is also listed as the No. 25 prospect out of the state of Virginia for the cycle.

Head coach Mike Locksley has continued to produce solid results on the recruiting trail since coming to the Terrapins. He led Maryland to the 18th-ranked recruiting class nationally in 2021 and is on track for another top-25 class in 2022. Hopefully, he can turn that into positive results on the field after going 5-12 since the start of 2019.
