But for those with a passion for horse racing, especially those local to Louisville area, the Kentucky Oaks is the place to see and be seen on the day before the Derby. This year 14 three-year old fillies will run in this $1.25 Million Grade 1 stakes race. Instead of the Run for the Roses, the Oaks showers the winning horse in “Lilies for the Fillies.”
Kentucky’s own Malathaat is the chalk, having won four races in four career starts, including the Grade I Central Bank Ashland Stakes at Keeneland on April 3rd. She sold for $1,050,000 as a yearling, and has paid handsomely for the Shadwell Stable and trainer Todd Pletcher.
