It’s US Open week!!!!! It’s the time of the year when the PGA likes to flex it’s muscles and challenge the players as much as possible. They grow the rough out extremely long, the greens play at warp speed, and the course layout always demands the utmost respect from the players. If you want a little taste Xander Schauffele posted a video on twitter on the rough behind hole #18. Anyways onto the analysis…….
Course: Torrey Pines South – It looks as if all 3 par 3’s will be playing 175 yards + with 2 of them coming in at over 210 yards. The par 5’s are also going to be playing quite long with 2 of them playing over 600 yards. Some of the par 4’s are deceivingly short but will play much longer. This course demands accuracy off the tee if you want any chance at being on the green in 2. Because of that I expect players to use irons and woods off the tee for quite a few of the par 4’s. This means we should see a lot of approach shots from 175-225 yards. When I list my key stats that yardage range is going to be something I target for approach play. I’m also going to be looking for players with good numbers around 50-100 yards approach. We’re going to see a lot of laying up when players hit wayward drives because they’re simply not going to be able to go for the green. I want guys who can get up and down for par from that 50-100 yard range. This leads to my key stats for the weekend:
Key Stats: SG: OTT (emphasis on driving distance), Bogey Avoidance, SG: Approach (emphasis on 175-225 yards), Scrambling, and Ball Striking.
I will be posting my targets later today and my official plays tomorrow most likely. We’ve hit 2 out of the last 3 outright winner so let’s keep rolling!
GL all!
