As the Vols took the field on Sunday, they were looking to close out a great weekend in Columbia by sweeping the Tigers. Tennessee was coming off a big performance on Saturday and looking to stay focused for their final game of the weekend. It should come as no surprise that the Vols bats showed up on Sunday against this Missouri pitching, as they finished with 16 hits on the day.
The Vols were led by Blake Tidwell, who gave up only 2 hits and had 7 strikeouts on the day, as he recorded the win. Max Ferguson recorded 2 hits, 1 HR and 3 RBI’s for the Vols. He wasn’t the only one stroking the bat today, as Drew Gilbert finished the day with 4 hits and 2 RBI’s.
Tennessee got a little luck outside of Columbia today as well. The Vanderbilt vs Alabama game was cancelled due to weather in Nashville. The Vols are 17-7, while Vanderbilt is 16-7, which could make the rest of the season very interesting.
Tennessee has a very big week ahead. They will host Tennessee Tech on Tuesday, before hosting the Arkansas Razorbacks, which will be a top-5 showdown. So as we get closer to the SEC tournament in Hoover, things are starting to take shape, with two SEC series remaining.
One thing is for sure, the Vols are putting together a strong finish to the the season.
