WASHINGTON, D.C. — It will be the center of the hockey world on Saturday. At roughly 7:15 p.m. ET, the puck will drop on Game 1 of the East Division series between the Washington Capitals and Boston Bruins.

After a truncated, COVID-altered 2020-21 regular season, Capitals-Bruins is the only game on the schedule for Day 1 of the postseason. And, for the first time since the 2019 Stanley Cup Final, there will be fans in the stands for an NHL playoff game, albeit at a reduced capacity of 25 percent.

But that’s not the only reason NHL teams, and their counterparts in the NBA and around North American professional sports, will have eyes focused on Capital One Arena.

In the southeast corner of the building, Monumental Sports — the parent company of the Capitals and Wizards — has built the first sportsbook inside an American sports venue.
